18 Fun Birthday Party Ideas For Twenty-Somethings

Looking for original and fun birthday party ideas for twenty-somethings? Let me help you find some inspiration for that special day!

Last week, my last year as a 20-something started. It feels so weird to leave my twenties behind; but I have also learned SO much during these years, that I’m excited for my thirties. I’m definitely wiser than I was 9 years ago!

One of the things I learned, is to not overthink my birthday and to enjoy the day. Some years I would experience birthday anxiety (not related to getting older).

Even though I still go through some birthday depression, I have learned how to manage it better.

If you go through something like, read this article. It can help you understand yourself better and feel validated.

Now that years have passed, I feel liked I missed the opportunity to celebrate my birthday in so many cool and unique ways. Especially because my birthday is during the spring and the weather is nicer.

20 Unique Ways To Celebrate Your Birthday In Your 20s

Even though the most important part of a birthday is to spend it with those who love you, it’s also super fun to impress them and create a celebration they will enjoy.

For me, another important part for my birthdays, is the food and cake. Knowing what YOU enjoy the most while you celebrate your birthday is key to have a good time. Especially if you usually deal with birthday depression.

1. Karaoke Night

The good part of wanting a karaoke night is that you can host it at your place or you can rent a space in your local area.

I have done karaoke on my birthdays before, and we always have a blast.

Complete your night with drinks and food. This will also depend on where you decide to celebrate it.

2. Paint and Sip At Home

If you and your friend group love crafts, then a paint and sip birthday party is perfect for you!

Go to your local crafts store and get all the supplies. Some people enjoy pottery, others painting on a canvas.

Another option is to get all materials necessary to make some jewelry. A great opportunity to get everyone matching friendship jewelry. So cute!

If you still want to do this, but you feel like you aren’t good with DIY projects, then you can always play a tutorial for everyone to watch.

Don’t forget the wine and snacks!

3. Old School Sleepover Party

When I was in high school I did a sleepover for four years straight. After the second year I felt like I was an expert at throwing sleepover parties.

It’s also so much fun when you spend the night with your closest friends.

Watch movies, maybe some karaoke, get pizza and snacks, make some cocktails, use that time to bond, talk about boys, play some board games, etc. The list of activities is endless.

You can even turn it into a spa night!

If you like to go the extra mile, you can get all your friend matching pajamas.

4. Birthday Party With A Theme

Another way to have an original and fun birthday party, is by choosing a theme. It can be about your favorite show, funny moments in your life, etc.

This idea works amazing when everyone takes the theme seriously.

This article here will give over 200 party themes in case you know what to do.

Things you can add to this birthday party idea: a DJ, bartender, a food truck, etc. You can even rent a cool place for the night, like a rooftop or anywhere with a nice view.

5. Fancy Picnic

I love this idea. It’s very intimate and you don’t need a big party to feel like you celebrated your birthday. Especially when you don’t really go out to clubs or drink too much.

Nowadays there are many businesses that are dedicated to create beautiful and enjoyable picnics. I would start looking on Instagram for account that do this professional picnics.

In case that you don’t have access to anything like that, I would go to Pinterest to search for some inspo. Instagram is also great for that.

6. Afternoon Tea

I’m big fan of tea and pastries, so this is something I would definitely do; and have some options to make this idea to work.

The first idea is to go to a fancy hotel. They most likely have an afternoon tea menu. This option could be very pricey, especially if you are inviting your friends (most places I checked here in Miami, would go over the $90 per person).

Now, you don’t have to go to a luxury hotel to get the afternoon tea experience. Many other places would have a special menu dedicated to it.

The second option is to host it at your home. If you want to give it a luxury touch, you can buy some decor for your special day.

You can also go to your local bakery and have some personalized cupcakes. That would be so cute!

7. Hibachi At Home

Having a special event that revolves around the main dish that you want to serve your guests, it’s another fun an original way to celebrate your birthday.

Hibachi is very popular for the show the put out to customers as well as how involved they make you feel when they are preparing your food.

You can also hire a private chef, ask a food truck to show up at your event, etc.

This is a great way to impress your guest, especially if you are a foodie.

8. At Home Wine Tasting

There are a couple ways to make this a super fun activity for everyone invited.

I was able to find some articles online that could help you organize your wine tasting birthday party.

The first one will explain you how to host a wine tasting party at home, and the second one will give you some tips to host a wine tasting party.

Now, if you aren’t a wine person, you can always switch up to the drink of your choice. Like beer.

When we start getting older, is when we start missing our care-free days.

13. Rent A Bounce House

I’m all about doing things that we used to do as kids.

Nowadays there are many options to rent a bounce house for adults. So you will definitely some option available for you.

Another idea: if you have the space and/or your birthday is during the summer, then renting an inflatable water slide could be a fun idea as well.

14. Rent an Island

Now, hear me out. This sounds extremely pricey, but apparently is not that bad (obviously depending on your budget).

One of my sister’s friend did this for her birthday and apparently is not as expensive as you might think. She lives in Miami where there is access to options like that.

I’m not sure with which company she did it, but on Google I was able to find an article that talks about this. You can check it out here.

If this just sounds too crazy, you can always rent a boat or yacht for a couple of hours (which is also not a bad idea).

15. Charcuterie Board Class

I’m currently obsessed with cheese tables and similar. They are so fun to create, and you can add all types of ingredients.

If you are planning a more private birthday, then this is a great way to enjoy your evening with your closest friends.

You can even create different themes and create teams. Each team can create a different board so everyone can enjoy different types of foods.

16. Book A Hotel Room

Instead of doing something at home, you can always book a hotel room to celebrate with your friends. You can do a fancy sleepover with them!

You can order food, decorate the room, have some drinks, have a spa night, etc.

If you want to plan more activities, you can even go out to party/have dinner and then finish your celebration at the hotel.

It’s so fun to do something different on your birthday than the typical party at home.

Another option is to rent an Airbnb. In case you want to invite more people to this celebration.

17. Rooftop Party

I don’t know about you, but in my city, many apartment buildings have rooftops that you can rent for a day. You can definitely create a fun party there.

Maybe watch the sunset with a charcuterie board, wine; and later, once the sunset sets, you can start your party with some music and food.

You can order pizza or a BBQ if you want something more simple.

18. Outdoor Cinema

If you love movies, then having a movie marathon might be a great option for you. It doesn’t have to be movies either, maybe you can watch some episodes of your favorite show too.

In my case, my birthday’s on October, so watching scary movies is a great idea.

You will only need a projector and a projector screen. The easiest way to do this, is by using sheets. Now, if you want to make it more professional, you can use something like this.

This article talks more in depth about the best projector screens you can use for your event.
