Yes! It’s finally Friday and I can’t wait to enjoy the weekend, although I might be working, I just love the feeling the weekend gives me. I feel more relaxed and it makes me think I have all the time in the world, and that I don’t need to rush. Anyway, today I’ll be sharing 21 Valentine’s Day activities for long distance relationships. We all know how hard special dates can be for us when we aren’t together to celebrate. So here I am, giving you a few ideas on how to make the day extra special. Even when you two are miles away from each other.
I have never found Valentine’s Day that important, or it might be because in Chile that celebration is not a big a deal. But I never back down to the opportunity to do something extra special for my boyfriend. And even if we are not together, I want him to know I’m thinking about him.

1. Make a video or presentation
Gather all the photos of you together, as well as selfies. Add your favorite song to the video, and ta-da! Watch it together and remember all of those moments together. Easy gift and a great activity. Also, you don’t need a difficult software to make the video. Download an app on your phone and that will be enough. There are many options!
2. Play 20 Questions to know each other better
Being in a long-distance relationship can make more difficult to get to know the other person since you aren’t present in many aspects of their lives. So take advantage of this celebration and find fun and interesting questions to answer. For that, I have a recommendation!
Gottman Card Decks, a great app full of questions that are supposed to improve relationships. So give it a try! This is for sure one of my favorite Valentine’s Day activities for long distance relationships. Super easy and rewarding.
3. Sing karaoke together
I love signing and this a great opportunity to be silly with your significant other. There are many ways to do it. You can either video chat and find on YouTube the songs you want to perform together. Or find a website that can do the job for you.
If you choose YouTube, I recommend the TheKARAOKEChannel. It has the latest songs and it feels like you were in a real karaoke! Or you can use Red Karaoke. I personally haven’t use the app, but it looks really good!
4. Make a playlist for your significant other
This is a cute and thoughtful gift you can both make. Have ready your playlists to give each other on Valentine’s Day and enjoy the day with the songs! Or you can do the playlists during the day. You can make the playlist through Spotify or YouTube, both are great options.
5. Go on a virtual movie date
Get comfy and grab your favorite snack. Pick a movie, and enjoy! You can do this in many ways. Each of you can watch the movie on your own TV and video chat while watching it. You can talk and laugh together! Another option is with Showgoers, which is a chrome extension that can let you watch Netflix remotely. You can also use Rabbit, a website that let you watch your favorite shows with people that aren’t with you. It’s great! And finally, you can try Gaze, that is pretty much similar to the other ones.
Pick your favorite and enjoy your date together! Isn’t this one, one of the best Valentine’s Day activities for long distance relationships?
6. During the previous days, read a book. And talk about it on valentine’s day
If you are into books, this can be a great idea! But if you aren’t, then find something similar. You can pick an interesting movie or a show. So many options!
7. Make a video chat date
This is a classic, and for sure something you have to do. You might not have time during the week, or maybe you live in different times zones that make video chatting more difficult. Make an effort and make sure to at least talk for a few minutes. There’s nothing better than seeing the face of your loved one. It can make your day (or night) better.
If you want to make it a little different or romantic, you can go somewhere else to video chat. Maybe a cafe or the park. Or you can even make your room look more romantic with roses and candles. Let yourself be creative!
8. Write each other a letter to read in the future
How adorable is this? You can either send an email or a letter. I prefer the letter because is more old school and special. It can be a beautiful memory from the moment you were fighting the distance. Just make sure to not lose the letter!
9. Take a free online class
Do you have a hobby you both like? Are you two interested in the same topics? Then take that love you both have for that activity you are passioned about, and learn together. It can be a cooking class, learning a new language or a tutorial about something you both would enjoy. It’s up to you!
There are many websites that will let you do this! You can start looking in Udemy or SkillShare.
10. Get married online
This sounds crazy, right? But if you are madly in love, Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to do something crazy like this. And don’t worry, is not real. Just a very symbolic way to assure that the love you feel for each other is real and is not going anywhere. I think this is one of the most romantic ideas in this list of Valentine’s Day activities for long distance relationships.
You can do this in Wed on Web.
11. Virtual Dinner date
If you love cooking, then this can be a very fun way to spend your evening together. How can you do this? Just make a menu for dinner and cook your favorite dishes together! And if you are in different time zones, try to choose dishes that you both can eat during the same meal. No one likes beef in the morning!
12. Be intimate
Valentine’s Day activities for long distance relationships don’t have to PG all the time. You can always spice things up with your partner. Just remember that whatever you do on the interest, stays there forever.
13. Play a game
Because if you can’t watch movies or play karaoke, you can definitely play a game together. There are many options online to make this work. You can start with the Facebook Messenger games. They have many options and you can pick your favorite one!
Or you can download any multiplayer game from your AppStore. Games like Trivia Crack or Words with Friends are always fun. Another option you have is role-playing games, and Second Life is a great platform to start! Is like living in a different world where you and your partner can meet.
14. Send to your boyfriend/girlfriend something handmade
This makes the day a little more special for the other person. Receiving a gift from a loved one brings always the best kind of feelings. Just have in mind the shipping rates. It can be a little expensive if your budget isn’t that big.
15. Mail him a letter to read on Valentine’s Day
And if a handmade gift is out of your budget. A letter is always a great way to show how much you appreciate that person. It’s so romantic and sweet! Don’t forget that if you are sending the letter to another country it will take longer to arrive at the destination.
16. Plan your next visit
Talking about your next visit will always make you feel better and happier. Because even if you don’t live near, you know that if you plan with enough time, that situation can easily change. Everytime my boyfriend and I plan to visit each other we need to think about so many things! Vacation time, plane ticket prices, our budgets. It’s a lot to think about. So it’s better to be ahead of all that.
17. Talk about your future together
This always makes me feel excited. No matter if we only talk about our dreams and not real things. But is important to talk about what you want in your life together, what you expect and how you wish things should go. I can spend hours talking about that, and is always fun! Daydreaming is something I always enjoy. Valentine’s Day activities for long distance relationships can be simple too!
18. Share an online file
Spend some time adding photos of you together or alone, write a document with a list of the places you want to go, a bucket list, and even your favorite songs! Pretty much whatever you want. Pick a service like Dropbox, and start adding everything you want!
19. Send him/her dinner
I think this idea is super thoughtful. Choose his or her favorite restaurant and see if it’s possible to do a delivery of their favorite meal. Now there are many ways to do it. The restaurant might have the option to do the delivery itself. Or you can use apps like Uber Eats. Just add the address of your partner and surprise her or him with their favorite food.
And to make the moment sweeter, make yourself your favorite meal and enjoy the moment together.
20. Give a gift you can both can enjoy when you see each other
Sometimes the gifts don’t have to be something physical, like perfume or clothes. It can be an experience you both can enjoy when you see each other. It can be tickets to a concert or a spa date. You choose!
21. Surprise your significant other with a visit
Who doesn’t love surprises? I definitely do! Especially if the surprise involves my boyfriend appearing in my house. If you can make it work, then go ahead! Every time I see videos of couples surprising each other I get all emotional. I know how hard that can be for many people. So if you have the opportunity, then do it without thinking too much about it. Everyone loves a romantic surprise.
So what do you think about these Valentine’s Day activities for long distance relationships? What do you usually do on that day? Let me know in the comments!
Sincerely, Melissa
