Reset Routine To Get Out Of A Slump
Feeling stuck in a slump can be incredibly frustrating. Whether it’s due to a lack of motivation, burnout, or external factors, getting back on track requires a deliberate reset routine.
My dad came to visit for almost two weeks and we have been doing so many activities that I ended up taking days off from work and doing the bare minimum.
Once he left, I literally didn’t know where to start to get back to a productive routine. I was basically all over the place.
To this day, I still haven’t learned how to get back to a routine easily. Which also means that I’m an expert at creating a reset routine to get out of a slump.
I used to get burnout pretty easily in the past, but thanks to my therapist I have been learning how to deal and overcome it in a better way. Basically, I have learned how to slow down before I reach that point.
This article will guide you through actionable steps to reset your routine, regain productivity, and get out of that slump.
Understanding the Slump
Before diving into the reset routine, it’s important to understand what a slump is.
A productivity slump is a period where your usual levels of efficiency and motivation drop significantly.
This can manifest as procrastination, a lack of focus, or simply feeling overwhelmed by tasks.

Recognizing you’re in a slump is the first step toward overcoming it.
Assess Your Current Routine
Or the lack of one. Which can also contribute in your slump.
Spontaneity is awesome, and not having to do the same every day is key to avoid burnout, but having a solid routine also has many benefits.
Like always, is important to have balance.
Identify Problem Areas
Start by evaluating your current routine. Identify specific areas where you feel stuck or unproductive.
Is it in the morning when you struggle to get started, or is it in the afternoon when your energy dips?
By pinpointing these problem areas, you can tailor your reset routine to address them directly.
Analyze Your Habits
Take a close look at your daily habits. Are there activities that are draining your energy or wasting your time?
Common culprits include excessive social media use, poor sleep habits, and lack of exercise. Understanding these habits will help you eliminate or modify them in your reset routine.
As I write this post, I still haven’t gotten my bedtime routine back, but each day I have been able to go to sleep earlier.
I also decided to take some melatonin to get back to a healthy sleep cycle.
Crafting Your Reset Routine
Set Clear Goals
To reset your routine effectively, start by setting clear, achievable goals.
These should be specific and measurable.
For instance, instead of saying “I want to be more productive,” aim for “I will complete three key tasks each day.” Clear goals provide direction and motivation.
Prioritize Tasks
One common reason for a productivity slump is feeling overwhelmed by tasks.
Use a prioritization method like the Eisenhower Matrix to categorize your tasks into four quadrants: urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, and neither urgent nor important.
Focus on tasks that fall into the first two categories to maximize productivity.
This is convenient when you start accumulating tasks and don’t know where to start.
I like to write a long list and then use the Eisenhower Matrix method.

Create a Structured Schedule
A structured schedule is the backbone of a successful reset routine.
Map out your day, allocating specific time slots for different tasks.
Include time for breaks and relaxation to prevent burnout.
Tools like planners, calendar apps, and productivity software can help you stick to your schedule.
The Happy Planner (vertical layout) it’s a great option for when you want to Mao out your day without being too structured like the Day Designer Planner.
Note: I linked my review of both planners if you want to check them out.
Implementing Healthy Habits
Improve Your Sleep
Quality sleep is crucial for productivity.
Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
Establish a consistent sleep schedule, create a relaxing bedtime routine, and avoid screens before bed to improve your sleep quality.
This usually starts with a solid evening routine, so make sure to check out how to create one with the article below.

Incorporate Exercise
Physical activity boosts energy levels and enhances focus.
Incorporate exercise into your daily routine, whether it’s a morning jog, a yoga session, or a quick workout during lunch.
Even a short walk can make a significant difference.
A couple of days ago I was struggling to find the perfect time for me to workout, but realized that since my days are not the same, I decided to simply workout when I felt like doing it.
Some mornings I wake up super productive, so I use that time to work; then I would exercise when that productivity left my body (which is usually after lunch).
Luckily my days are mostly flexible so I’m able to do this.
Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness practices, such as meditation or deep breathing exercises, can help reduce stress and improve concentration.
Dedicate a few minutes each day to mindfulness activities to reset your mind and enhance productivity.
This is a habit that I have been trying to implement in my routine, but haven’t been successful with it yet.
So this time I’m starting super slow. If I can meditate at least once a week, I’ll be happy.
Staying Consistent
Track Your Progress
Monitoring your progress is essential to maintaining your reset routine.
Use a journal, app (like Notion), or spreadsheet to track your goals, completed tasks, and any obstacles you encounter.
You can download this Habit Tracker as well. Very helpful and easy to use.
Regularly reviewing your progress can help you stay motivated and make necessary adjustments.
Seek Accountability
Having someone to hold you accountable can significantly boost your chances of success. Share your goals and progress with a friend, family member, or mentor.
Alternatively, join a productivity group or community where members support each other in achieving their goals.

Adjust When Necessary
Flexibility is key to maintaining a successful reset routine.
Life is unpredictable, and unexpected challenges may arise.
Be willing to adjust your routine when needed, and don’t be too hard on yourself if things don’t go as planned.
The goal is progress, not perfection.
