The holiday season is here, so I thought it would be a great idea to share with you some fun Christmas traditions for couples without kids.

If you are starting a new relationship, maybe you just moved in with your boyfriend or girlfriend, or if you simply want to start a new Christmas tradition with your husband or wife, then you are going to love these ideas!

Most of these ideas are budget friendly as well, as I know how expensive this time of the year can be.

I just love the idea of finding ways to keep connecting with your partner. Which is so important!

Sometimes we get too centered on the things we need to get done during this season, that we forget how to enjoy it and be in the present.

How To Spend Christmas As A Couple

The way you spend Christmas as a couple will vary and it will depend on if you live together or not.

When you both are in the same place, it’s easier to create instances to be together. Even though it can be the opposite as well, so it’s important to take the time to enjoy as a couple.

Relationships are just like flowers, you need to constantly water them.

Creating new Christmas traditions is fun and it will give something extra exciting to the season.

Besides, when two people from different families come together, it’s normal to try to do what you used to do with your family, but sometimes that doesn’t agree with the other part.

So finding new Christmas traditions as a couple is great way to coming to an understanding.

Now, these are obviously a bunch of Christmas traditions for couples, and you don’t have to do them all. That would be too overwhelming! And we know how stressful the holidays can be.

So choose your favorite ones and enjoy!

1. Make Your Own Advent Calendar

Advent calendars are fun, but sometimes you can’t find one that you really like. In that case you can get envelopes, little bags, or even small boxes to put things you both like.

I was able to also find this beautiful wooden advent calendar that would look so cute with your other holiday decorations. The best is that you can reuse it every year!

Another option that I was able to find was this advent calendar boxes, which are in the shape of a gingerbread house. Super cute as well.

Or you can get this advent calendar with pockets that you can hang on the wall.

2. Christmas Cocktails Competition

Any time of Christmas competition can be a fun way to spend time together and get into the holiday spirit.

You can also add a drinking game into the mix to enjoy all night!

3. Christmas Movie Marathon

You can do this Christmas tradition in a couple of different ways. You can either watch a different Christmas movie every day, or you can choose a day in particular to do the movie marathon.

If you decide to watch a movie every day until December 25th, you can write down all your movie options and put them in a jar. Then simply pick one each day.

4. Go Ice Skating

Ice skating is fun! You can make it more interesting and do a competition. Whoever wins buys dinner! Or you can go to a coffee shop afterwards.

Tip: if you are near Fort Lauderdale, then you can go Las Olas Oceanside Park and enjoy the ice skating rink that will be there during December for the annual Wonderland holiday experience.

5. Bake Cookies Together

Each year you can choose a different theme for your cookies to make it more fun and interesting.

One year can be a winter wonderland, the next one can be about your favorite Christmas movies, or you can do different flavors every year.

You can also go to a thrift shop to get baking supplies. It doesn’t have to be an expensive activity!

6. Hot Chocolate Date

You can go to a coffee shop and enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate, or you can also do a little picnic if the weather allows it.

This would also be a great opportunity to start a couples journal. My husband and I have this one, but there are multiple in the market. You can find more options of couples journals here.

Another option is to camp out under the Christmas tree, get snacks, and drink multiple cups of hot chocolate.

Or you can also put your hot chocolate in a travel mug and go for a walk.

7. DIY Christmas Ornaments

Another fun Christmas tradition for couples is to DIY Christmas ornaments.

If DIY is not your thing, you can get a new ornament every year. Something that represents a big milestone or the year you had.

You can also go on Etsy and find one that you can personalized! You can add the year, names, or a short phrase.

For example, if you bough a house this year, this new home ornament would look so cute on your Christmas tree.

Definitely a great Christmas tradition for newlyweds!

8. Christmas Day Brunch

As a Latina, we really celebrate Christmas on December 24th. The following day is to relax and enjoy your new gifts.

Christmas Day brunch is a new Christmas tradition for couples that I’ll be adding to my list this year.

I’m still looking for ideas on Pinterest, but we will definitely do hot chocolate and Panettone (a tradition from my Peruvian side of the family).

9. Take Holiday Photos

I think this is a cute Christmas tradition for newlyweds.

Every year you will have the chance to recreate the photo and see how are you changing and how your little family is growing.

10. Matching Pajamas

This one is definitely a classic between all the Christmas tradition ideas for couples.

You can even do it together with the tradition above. Every year you get new matching pajamas, then you can take holiday photos wearing them.

11. Donate Gifts or Volunteer

I think this is a great way to get into the holiday spirit, and take time to give and leave behind the consumerism that comes with the holiday season.

Volunteering your time and energy into something special can bring so much happiness to everyone involved.

When I was living in Chile, my mom and I would part of this campaign made by Correos de Chile (Chilean version of the USPS), and we would pick cards of kids that would write letters to Santa.

Some kids would only ask for a special Christmas dinner, others wanted money for their parents, and some would simply ask for gifts.

It was a very emotional moment, and it felt so good to be able to help those kids and make their Christmas a little better.

12. Write Christmas Letters

There are many ways you can do this.

One option is to write each other a Christmas a letter with things you want to give to your significant other, instead of writing things you want.

It can be material gifts, activities, or things you want to improve as a person to improve the relationship.

Another option is to write a letter thanking your significant other for specific things they have done for you. You can add compliments, and you can even add some naughty activities you want to do for them as a gift.

13. Plan A Christmas Gateway

You can either choose to go before, during, or after the holidays; but I think it would be a great idea if you do it before December 25th, as an opening to the holiday season.

It will depend on your plans with each other’s families.

14. Build a Gingerbread House Together

This can be a lot of fun! And team building actives are always great.

Just remember to not lose patience with each other. You are supposed to create cute memories. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t look perfect.

Now, if you just want to avoid any issues, just get each other a gingerbread house to build.

15. Christmas Game Night

Many of them can be played with only two people, but it can also be a fun tradition if you want to host a Christmas game night with your friends.

16. Visit a Christmas Tree Farm

Visiting a Christmas tree farm is a fun activity that you can both enjoy if you decide to get a real tree.

Also a great opportunity to walk around and get some fresh air.

17. Stocking Stuffer

You can do this with cheap little things, or you can try a theme instead.

For example; one year you can do snacks, another year drinks, funny gifts, cosmetics, etc.

18. Kiss Under The Mistletoe

The Mistletoe is a plant that represents love and peace. It’s also supposed to have mystical powers that bring good luck. So either way it’s a great plant to have around, especially during the holiday season.

Find a nice place and hang a mistletoe in your home and kiss every time you are both under the mistletoe.

19. Take a Walk To See Christmas Lights

Grab some hot cocoa, and go to a neighborhood with some pretty Christmas lights and decorations.

Sometimes we just need to take some time to enjoy the little things in life.

A simple activity with someone you love is the best way to send your evening.

20. Set Up The Christmas Tree Together

Make it a date and go all for it! Make food, drinks, put some Christmas music, and enjoy the process.

I know it can be a little challenging when both people like different things, but remember to compromise. Or leave it to luck, and make decisions with rock paper scissors!
