Hi there, lovelies! Welcome back to my blog. Today I’ll be sharing those free apps I use to edit Instagram photos and stories. Even though Instagram has been a pain lately, with the fact that it feels like no one is seeing my photos, I still like the creative side of the app.
I have a lot of fun editing them. I get to create a presets, you can change the color of walls, add stars or quotes to the photos, draw on them, etc. It’s up to you what you want to create.
Now, we have heard about VSCO girls lately and it’s one of my favorite trends. Even though I’m kinda old for that, I’m obsessed with the whole aesthetic. Especially with the scrunchies. At the moment, I think I have one in every color. You know… so I can match them with my outfits.
The name of this trend comes from the photo editing app, VSCO. Which is a great app to use if you are just starting out and you don’t want to deal with complicated settings. You can go to Pinterest and search for “VSCO themes” and you will find a ton of different ways to edit your pictures.
I didn’t add it to my list since I don’t use it anymore, but I still wanted to mention it because it’s a great app. It’s also free, but you can also purchase extra filters.

1. Lightroom
This app is free for android and iOS. You don’t need to pay a monthly subscription like you do on the desktop version. In this app you use presets, which is like a filter. You can read my post about how to edit with Lightroom Mobile, here.
This is my go-to app when I want a cohesive theme. All my photos have a similar look (colors) and it’s because of the preset I created. Once you have the preset, you edit your photos super easily. Basically with just one click!
If you love how my pictures look, you can get the same preset I use for my photos here. I created it myself and it’s only available for Lightroom Mobile.

2. Snapseed
I love this app, especially when I want to erase or “heal” (that’s how the app call it) an annoying object on the photo. Even though I prefer to do that on Photoshop, sometimes I’m not able to use my MacBook so I just have to do it on my phone.
You can create a vintage look with this app, add blur, text, etc. It’s a very complete tool!
3. PicsArt
If you want to be more creative, this is the app for you. Have you seen girls adding butterflies, stars, glitter bikinis, and that melted effect to their photos? This is the app they use.
There are so many things you can do with this app! Just search on Youtube “PicsArt tutorial” and a ton of ideas will show up.
It can be a little tricky to start using it at first, but after practicing a few times you get the handle of it. I’m sure that whatever you are trying to do, there’s already a tutorial for that.
I need to mention that even though the app is free, there are also many features that are paid, so that can be very limiting.
This is an example of what you can do with that app. My version of The Little Mermaid when I’m not at the beach.
4. Storyluxe
If you want that film template for your stories or photos, this is the app that many use. The app is free, but most of their templates are paid. Luckily, most of the cutest ones are free.
With the different templates you can create super cute collages! Definitely one of the best free apps I use for my Instagram.
5. Unfold
Unfold is another app I use for my stories. This app also has free and paid templates. So far, I have paid for just one package of templates. Which was like $2. Totally worth it since I use them a lot!
The only thing I don’y really like about this apps is the fact that you can’t customize them a lot. It doesn’t have many options of fonts and colors, but it does the job.
BONUS: Plann
Once you edited all your photos you need an app to plan all those pictures. To see how they look together, in what order you want to post them and if you want… you can also schedule them.
I prefer to have all my photos for Instagram in one app. I can write the captions there and create different groups of hashtags I might want to use. It’s so much better to have everything organized!
Like most apps. This has a free and premium version.
There are many apps like this one. Other options you have: Preview, UNUM, and Planoly.
Do you already use all these free apps to edit your Instagram photos? What are the ones you use (and love) that aren’t in this list? Let me know in the comments!
Sincerely,
